Downtown Wine and Spirits

Client: Trinity McDermott and David Ewan
Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Size: 1800 Square Feet
Completion: Spring 2007

This project takes a typical generic concept of a wine and liquor store and transforms an existing tenant space into an elegantly and uniquely designed retail experience. The typical urban shell space allowed the products to be ordered, categorized and catalogued in linear and strictly defined zones.

'Light Ribs' were developed to be the major ordering devices setting up the rhythm of the space while contributing to the overall aesthetic. The wine is displayed and catalogued much like a library based on regions of origin, while the spirits are separated and zoned according to ingredients, process and flavor.

The use of natural materials along with the existing refinished flooring creates a contemplative and relaxing environment.  The creative lighting techniques establish a setting that showcases each product while the white wine displays provide a clean and distinct display opportunity for each winery.
